visiting ko samui for 10 days soon and wondered if there are many gay places (bars, clubs, cruising) in the chawang beach area..... Have looked in Spartacus and there are a few listed but looking around the internet has as yet revealed nothing! Any help appreciated......... |

I spent a week on Samui in December and found it lived up to its advance as not having a whole lot in the way of gay recreation. Beautiful island, great seafood, but if you're there for 10 days reading material is recommended.

There was a gogo bar of sorts there at one time but it was awful!!
You MAY get lucky at Le Club or Reggae Pub but don't bet on it! The Muang Kulaypan Hotel is quite gay friendly at least you will be able to go there for dinner and spot a few Thai Hi-so Queens |

Agree. Was there in September and nothing at all. Despite the other posts on the subject I do like Patong Beach at Phuket, especially the patong Bay Garden Resort - next to the better known Beach Bungalows. Out of season the Andaman rooms are good value and are literally on the beach (unlike other so called beach front rooms hotels advertise). Very gay friendly hotel and short walk (if you take the short cut) to the Paradise Complex.

While it is true that there isn't an organised gay scene in Koh Samui, sex isn't that hard to find anywhere in Thailand, or muslim countries, and as a majority of the population in Samui are muslim......
However it does seem to attract the roughest selection of tourists! |

Interesting comment about the "roughest selection of tourists", because it puts words to a feeling I had during the visit (my first), as well. The Samui people were lovely and gay-friendly as are most Thai-- I was with my Thai friend- but there were definitely reactions from the straight tourists I haven't experienced elsewhere in Thailand, and that I'm not usually particularly sensitive about.
