Are they still selling gay VCDs on Silom near the Skytrain Station and at Panthip Plaza? I got some in March and the quality was only fair. The ones on Silom were better quality (but still not very good) than the ones from Panthip Plaza.

Yes, they are still selling on Silom, now with labels on the tables stating "Sex..Boys and Lady". They used to sell gay magazines on Rama 4 road between Silom and Surawongse, but now seem to have moved more into the lime light in front of Family Mart, next to the entrance to Soi Twilight.

I would recommend you to get whatever gay vcds at dtg.com web site.
I was a regular buyer from vendors at Silom. Most of the time I was disappointed. The reasons were many but most importantly was many a time the front cover and the vcd did not match. In other words, the print outside and the pictures inside the vcd are different. Like you, I sought advice from this board and was provided with detailed information on how to explore and order them through the dtg.com route. Oh it's wonderful, all the vcds tally with the covers and moreover the print was far superior to the ones sold at Silom or Pantip. Furthermore, dtgcd's collection is far more than the street vendors at Silom. Try to get into the dtg.com web site and make your choice. They are divided into 3 sections namely Thais, Farangs and Japs and you can make your pick. Furthermore if you buy more than 25 pcs, I think, it only costs you 60 baht a piece whereas at Silom are selling at 70 baht a peice with no guarantee that the cover matches the vcd. The only leg work you have to do is to pay the money through the bank in Bangkok and you will receive them in abt 3 days time. It's really very reliable and good.

Well, perhaps dtg provides good service, but last time I was browsing their site, there was a number of child porn vcds as well. Young boys, for sure not even in their teens. This is disgusting, and I hope dtg cleans up its act asap.

Thanks guys for all the info on VCDs. I was very disappointed with the vcds from Panthip and somewhat disappointed with the ones I purchased on Silom. Most seemed to be copied of vcr recortings, including noise lines and fuzzy pictures. I wanted to purchase through dtg, but thought it would be too much of a hassle since I was only in Bangkok for six days and I do not read or speak Thai and their website is mostly in Thai, even though the titles are in English. Maybe I'll try them when I come back in January or find someone who speaks Thai who can help me make arrangement to get the vcds form dtg.
Once again, thanks for all the help. Maybe I'll see some of you guys in the Prince Theater or Freemans.

I have quite a few VCDs, bought in Silom. Not all are my taste, as the cover may not match the video, or the action in the video is not what I prefer. Someone mentioned to me that you may return your vcds to the vendors, and get a discount for them, like 2 old vcd give you one from the shop, or something like that. Does anyone know how this works? Do you need to visit the same shop as you bought them from? Is this easy to do in any of the vendors there? Advice is appriciated.

Mark,
The procedure to order from DTG is quite simple: e-mail them at dtgcd@hotmail.com with the following in English: "Hi DTG, Please send me the following CDs: m231 m772 m566 My adress is: Fred Bloggs Hotel Twinky Room 69 Sukumvit Soi 27 10220 Bangkok I will pay into your Bangkok Bank account if you tell me the number and name. Thanks, Fred Bloggs" They will e-mail you back with a price and account number and order number to quote in your reply when you confirm payment. Pay into a BKK Bank branch(take a copy of DTG's e-mail and show to bank teller if you like...it contains nothing sexy) and note the record number/payment reference number. Then e-mail back with this number and the order number...or just reply to the original message from them and leave the text of their message attached...and within 3 days, the package will arrive. |

If you have a Bangkok Bank ATM, you can pay them via phone or ATM machine...I guess you could pay with any atm card if at a BKK Bank machine...but then I am not sure if you still get the transaction reference number, necessary to quote on your payment confirmation e-mail. Maybe it is printed on the transaction receipt.
The package is a standard EMS cardboard box with nothing indicating the contents. All this I know from the orders placed by my neighbor. |
