Was it because of a perceived security threat to the aircraft and passengers? Was it because the security staff fancied some poppers? Anyway....if they were confiscated with no other repercussions I guess that's not the end of the world. I think I'll just toss a couple of bottles in my general luggage and see what transpires. The x rays must show up tiny bottles in peoples luggage all the time...nasal sprays and so on.

But have you ever thought of the mayhem and embarrassment of having a popper bottle burst through air pressure changes? I don't know if this could really happen, but it seems to me a possibility. The bottles the stuff comes in are made of the very cheapest glass - and remember, even bottles of wine, made of better glass, can burst from time to time. If it burst in your cabin luggage - unthinkable!! And if it was in your hold luggage, can you imagine customs and immigration! Even a leak would be pretty lethal to your reputation with fellow travellers and probably cause trouble with the authorities. For example, I'm sure that from the point of view of the airlines it counts as an inflammable substance (it DOES have to be kept away from flames and might pose a safety hazard), and you might find you're on the end of a legal action for taking such a substance on board.
Yes, I've thought of it, especially as a few Thai guys are keen on it, if only because it's unusual and illegal! But I'm too horribly aware of the possible consequences ever to risk it.

I did ask the Mamasan at a go go bar in Pattaya if he could get me some and he responded in the affirmative. I forget the rate he quoted me.....I think it was around 2,000 baht. Maybe I'll follow that one through next time I'm at that bar! Then again....it'd have to be in a sealed bottle and the product would need to be a recognised brand before I'd be interested!

dont do that shit in Thailand. you are a FARANG, if you get caught ; Those law enforcement officers 'll be very tough on you. they do that for publicity.
If you really need them badly , you can ask any bar boy in PAT PONG. DO YOU REALLY need help form poppers to take those THAI cocks?

This thread has become really amusing. You guys are really 'girly boys' (to borrow from you-know-who). Poppers might be illegal in Thailand and many other jurisdictions, but nobody ever got arrested for possessing or using them. I carry bottles (plural intended) of poppers around the world in my hand luggage or check-in luggage and nobody ever paid any attention to them (including very 'sensitive' US and Australian airports). What the customs officers look for are sharp objects (that KILL people not give them hards-on). My poppers NEVER burst on the plane. Bursting bottles in the airplane cabins is just another urban myth (have you ever seen it happening?). They also never spill and don't let any odour out. And yes, there is a difference between sniffing poppers for a few secs and sniffing paint thinner. Paint thinner isn't known to give you a sexual pleasure. If I'm mistaken, do let me know.
So if your Thai friends ask you to bring them a few bottles, by all means help them out. But if you're a chicken, then by all means, just hide yourself under some solid bed and wait for an inevitable nuclear war (or some other catastrophe that's meant to deprive our planet of your important presence).
