Phahol cinema ...
-- A mature, visiting & gweilo friend recently went to the PHAHOL CINEMA - Saphan Kwai;
- He was not too pleased to be accosted openly in the lobby outside by all too obvious katoeys, some of whom are well-passed their sell-by dates. - Nor was he too happy to see rats scuttling across the floor inside. - Not an experience that he wishes to repeat! :( -- E&OE. as reported speech. -- :) |
HAWAII CINEMA - Wong Wian Yai ...
-- Y'day., 13 dec., evening I passed-by the site of the former CHALERM GIAT CINEMA - Lat Ya rd., THONBURI; that site has been levelled to ground level now and cleared - thus leaving only the HAWAII CINEMA - Charoen Rat rd. in that area.
-- For those wishing to visit: either the BTS. to Wong Wian Yai, (S8.), followed by a roughly ten mins. walk or 'bus. #4. from Rama IV. rd. to WWY. are two convenient ways of going there. -- :) |
bus 177 along Silom should bring you even closer by-stops at that leveled space opposite Robinson shop (landmark)

PPHAHOL CINEMA & 39 U'GD. SAUNA - Saphan kwai ...
-- A few days ago an elderly, frequently visiting & Am. acquaintance gave me to u'stand. that a Filippino friend of his - whom I've met a couple fo times and is, I'd judge, well into his 50s. - had visited PHAHOL CINEMA and thence gone-on to 39 U'GD. SAUNA - Saphan kwai, a couple of times each.
- Reportedly the Filipino said that both places were busy and that he, despite his age and condition, had little trouble in scoring in both places. -- E&OE. as reported speech. -- :) |
I had an errand in the neighborhood last week, so I thought it would be irresponsible of me not to stick my head into the Hawaii Theater (Charoenrat Road, just down from the old Merry Kings department store at Wongwien Yai).
The good news is that it is still in business. I don't know how they even pay their electricity bills out of their daily receipts, though. Maybe it's a money-laundering operation. In any case, perhaps a dozen people in attendance on this weekday afternoon between 16:30 and closing time at 19:30. Two or three money boys -- not hard on the eyes and not aggressive. No lady boys, thankfully. The rest, middle-aged and above. One guy looked homeless. One asked me to take pictures of him standing stark naked in the restrooms, and then later in the theater itself. None present held any interest for this cruiser. Left after three hopeful yet ultimately unproductive hours. |
the B Post or Nation had an article today about the Nonthaburi Rama cinema and how it was about to be pulled down. Surely the other few (esp Chinatown and Saphan Kwai) in Bangkok will go the same way in this Condo age.
|
Yes, absolutely they will. They make zero economic sense.
So get suckin' while the Phahol Cinema, Hawaii, State, Chinatown (name escapes me) and Bangkhae Rama are still around. Have I missed any? Is the cinema at Klongtoey still open? PS: the Nonthaburi Rama has been closed for many years already. I'm surprised they're just now getting around to pulling down the building. |
weekends specially sundays are still ok at the hawaii- even imports from spore

After day of violence, Bangkok public urged to stay indoors.

Everything is completely normal.
