" The rent went up so high-and the neighbors on what is now isan Ba ta or..."

I'm guessing that you got that misinformation from Sawatdee from a poster who had the low-down on why the Solid bar closed. That poster did not name his source but I've heard quite a different story from hopefully a different more reliable source but you never know what to believe. That is why I don't repeat what I hear unless I have first hand information.

Bottom line, who cares who owns the place or why the ownership changed.

I was at Scorpion on Sunday and spoke directly with the mamasan - the former mamasan at Solid whom I have known for more than 5 years. He told me exactly the same story as related by pong - that the rent had been doubled and the bar will be taken over by the karoke joint next door. That is a direct quote from him (not second hand) and I assume it is true - but then this is Thailand!

Ahh so it's the mamasan spreading that story--a saving face story. My sorce was closer to the owner. It might even be possible that is what the owner told the mamasan but again, I was told quite a different story.

The source does not want to be named but if anyone is all that interested PM me, meet me and I'll take you to the source person to hear the story I was told. Then you be the judge.

I was in the new Solid tonight with a friend and it was not all that bad. We had a good time but there were only 4 boys but they gave us a lot of attention and the service was fine. We were told there will be more boys soon. I expected more of a make over than there was, just a few minor changes. Give them some time before condemning the place.
The place is now shut tighter than a duck's fanny. Old Solid, New Solid...bye bye.

Originally Tomahawk, then Solid - (forget Twighlight - same as Screwboy had a brief sojourn there and returned to Patpong) - I hope Solid re-incarnates again.

oh no! you are forgetting a load before-in fact Tomahawk was mr. leks domain and in the soi opposite new tawan. Then lek moved over to this now closd place but soon ledft for Jomtien. Lek was of former Golden Cock fame and a sweetheart.
THIS shop I remember first as KING DIAMOND-in the early 90ies, when Superlek Matsuda was still a big draw for japanese and the Lucky S/Super A combo was not as bad as it is now. Have fond memories of KD- my first times in BKK and ''a new discovery''. had some really great guys from here, incl a look kreung Khmer/Thai from Surindr.

I well remember Mr Lek from Tomohawk and Solid- he is still in Jomtien at a host bar next door to Dick's Cafe & waves to me when-ever I pass! Also remember well Superlek Masuda and Lucky underneath SuperA.

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be !

I remember all of that. Superlek especially and fond memories of some wonderful young men who would all be in their early to mid forties by now.

1. So if they are now in their 40's we'd be in our ... oh shit !

2. A bar in Jomtien has a sign "10% discount to over 50's"
- who the hell is going to admit that for 10 bht ?

3. Conversation on Jomtien beach between European farang and deck chair boy highlights our cultural and attitudinal differences;

Farang "when's your day off this week"
Thai " no day off - I work every day"
Farang "why not ?"
Thai "because I eat every day!"

Says it all don't you think?

Strolling through Soi Twighlight today some-one called my name - t'was he of the over-sized jacket, but today sans-jacket . He's running the small handkerchief - sized outside bar to the left of the entrance to Scorpion. Says he still has some boys from Solid - we'll see.

The old Solid looks to be closed with a lot of reno work to the ex -Karaoke next door and maybe expanding into Solid's area.

He reckons rent of 50K per month killed Solid.

PS. Dropped in last night. He has previous captain (bald head) and 3 ex-Solid Boys there and drinks only 100bt which is cheap for Twighlight. However - its just a tiny beer bar.
