Hey guys...i usualy stay in boca chica are in the D.R. but i am thinking of staying in the north part of the island, probably in sosua, for my next trip. Is there anything "happening" in sosua? Nothing beats "fantasy island" (matica) off of boca chica....was wondering if there was something similar in sosua.
thanks jj

i have done a bit of santo domingo as well...but i really prefer boca chica (i am a beach bum....and as i live in NYC i really dont care to spend too much time in S.D.)
Matica (aka fantasy island) is a short swim off the main beach of boca chica. My last trip there i found myself in the company of 8 totaly hot locals smoking some "stuff"....and i had to leave...i was just so overwhelmed. Swims out to matica vary tho. I do not recommend going out there on a sunday as it is pretty much family day in b.c. around 10 in the morning or later in the afternoon seem to be the best times to meet guys out there. SOME are hustlers...but many are not....and the ones that are looking for $$ will be happy for under 500 pesos. I have many fond memories out on matica "fantasy island" . but it is not for everyone....you DO have a good 15 - 20 min swim to get there....and depending how you swim back it could take nearly 30 mins. ANd taking a paddle boat out there just aint cool....you will stick out like a gringo tourist looking for trouble. (and there have been times i have seen some guys lurking in the trees that kinda look like politur). ahhh...but that memory of 8 young guys smokin trees in their wet undies will have me swimming back out on my next trip!!!! nothing like suckin and fuckin on a deserted island off the main beach :-) I kinda what to do more of the capital...but it sounds like the guys there are more shady and $$$$$. I'll take my freebies and non sankie boys in B.C. regards jj

Thanks for the quick response! I've only been to Boca Chica once--and it must have been on the weekend because it was mobbed. I didn't like the scene there at all. Is the beach really that good? I couldn't even see it for all the people there.
The island sounds fantastic. I love boys in wet underwear! I may just have to check it out the next time I go. Where do you typically stay in Boca Chica? Where do you meet guys, other than the island? SD doesn't have to be all about money, though it is pretty normal to be approached by guys wanting to be paid. I'm not at all opposed to paying once in a while if the guy is special. I've had some great experiences in SD, both paid and gratis. I've also found a lot of "in-between" arrangements, especially with the younger guys. where it's more like a date where you have dinner and do some shopping together.

mikey,
there is a "gay" hotel in s.d. Hotel Duke Wellington. I hear it is a pretty friendly place....but when u check in just make sure that the windows are secure (i.e., there are solid bars on the window) There is a big gay disco...grrrrr...just trying to remember the name...i will post it later. There is pleanty of street crusing to be had on el conde (an outdoor mall in the zona colonial) I will post more later.... Still no news about Sosua?????????

Check out this website: http://www.gaysantodomingo.com/
It has up-to-date info on the scene in SD. I notice that only one gay club (Aire) and one gay bar (Phoenix) are listed now. I guess that means the bad economic times there have taken their toll. There used to be more places. Aire is a big, glitzy club. Phoenix is a low-key bar which is a hangout for hustlers. It's quite friendly, though. The owner, an Englishman, is very helpful with information. FYI, El Conde is a pedestrian street in the zona colonial. There is a hotel on this street (some American chain the name of which escapes me) with a restaurant with tables out front on the street. If you sit here long enough you will likely be approached. If you are interested in theater cruising, the Lido Theater (on the same street as the Mercado--opposite side of the street and one block East) is very busy. I've had great times there. The Duque de Wellington Hotel is not strictly a gay hotel but a lot of gay people stay there. It's not at all fancy but it's clean. The front desk people speak English. There are usually some hustlers hanging around but it's pretty low-key. You can bring guys to your room with no problem but they have to register and must have their id's. There is usually a nominal extra charge for this. If not charged a tip to the front desk person would be a good idea.

jay dee's i think is the name of another gay disco that has many strippers that go all the way. it is in the zona colonial as well...about 2 blocks off el conde.
I dont know the name of that restaurant that you are talking about....but i think it is the one that is right accross from the big cathedral and large plaza on el conde. Now if only i could get some info on sosua.

I really enjoyed jaydees when I was there a couple of years ago also--a lot more than Aire. But the fact it't not listed on the website makes me think it may have closed. That would be too bad.
The hotel on El Conde is the Mercure (OK, so it's not an American chain....)

well, i was curious about fantasy island and when I passed through BC last year with a guy who was showing me around, it looked nice enough. Boy was it a mistake. I took a short walk on the beach and just about every person I passed tried to sell me pussy, including lots of women working the beach - and it was early yet. When I walked through the town later, it was like a giant outdoor whorehouse, and not the kinds of whores I was looking for (the ones with the big black dicks) - it was total sleazeville and I packed up and got out of town the next day. As far as paying for sex, I find SD much easier since there is not the overly aggressive straight hooker scene competing for my attention, and SD has the Lido, which offers lots of big dick for free. Boca Chica was not for me - just a warning for anyone who might be thinking of going.
