Hey, I'd love to find that perfect place, too. Not sure any ONE stands out -- lots of cities have great bookstores, but just about all leave something to be desired, too.

In your neck of the woods, try Providence, RI. Gay Megaplex was hot as hell for me. Good bathhouse AND bookstores adjacent. Down by the docks. Not sure if this is still open, but you can check online.

A driving trip through NH would yield good results. Lots of small stores, though -- but you can hit many in a few hours.

Atlanta scene used to be hot, but I think from what I've heard it has gotten more tame lately.

For me, TAMPA was about the best town I've found so far, but I haven't done the bookstore scene in California.

No one particular place in Tampa, either. The Sex Listings here will give you a rundown of all the great bookstores. All night action, never stops. Most within easy driving distance. Not a problem to go to several stops in one night. Large metro area, too, with stores in adjacent communities and an interesting gay campground about eighty miles away.

I've done a few cocksuckee bookstore driving trips myself. Tampa takes the cake so far, but I enjoy West Virginia (statewide), too. WV is a tame scene, though, with many small stores.

The MegaPlex is very hot and I can't beleive I'm saying this about a bath house, but pretty clean. The bookstore next to it is hot too and I never had a time that I didn't fuck ass when I went there. I prefer the bookstores that charge a fee to get to the video booths. That way they get their money and they leave you alone to do what you want.

I've decided that I can no longer live without visits to bookstores. I have had the MOST INTENSE time I've ever had in my life just recently and have met some of the greatest dudes ever in bookstores during this trip to NY. If I'd been asked this question last year, I would have voted for a tie between the Paris in Worcester Mass, and the Art Cinema in Troy, NY. Although not primarily bookstores, I think we've come to use that term rather loosely. Both were old HUGE turn of the century style downtown theaters with all kinds of nooks, crannies, balconies, and other places to hide out. Lots of people, lots of action. filthy. But no cement block, side of the highway porn place could ever have the atmosphere that these places have. Soon, there will be none left like this anywhere.
Unfortunately, both places were raided and shut down permanently within the past year(The Paris in November and The Cinema Art just last month) under VERY sleazy, crooked (and very similar) political circumstances. People were arrested and led out in big media feeding frenzies.
