I found myself in Wongwian yai the other day and took the opportunity to investigate its 2 cinemas:
- the Hawaii was open for business, showing porn and reasonably busy
- I think the Chalerm Kiad is no longer in business. I found what I think was the cinema, but couldn't see an entrance or steps, and no signs outside

HAWAII CINEMA - Thonburi ...

- Our Esteemed Moderator,Khun Icon, (for whom no-one has an higher regard than me.), slapped my wrist for suggesting that one might want to scroll-back for directions whithersoever - in that case it was to the STATE CINEMA;
- However, I'll follow my usual course of action and suggest that you scroll-back: this thread, #97. et seq..

My experience of one visit to the Hawaii on a Saturday afternoon:
- about 30 people present
- no katoey (a shame, imo)
- I was not approached by any money boys
- there was one other farang there
- some seemed to be there to watch the porn, but action definitely available
- one 30-something suggest we visit the toilets. I checked these, and there was only one available for visitors to use

It was a typical cinema of its kind, and the extent to which these places are neglected and run down has to be seen to be believed.

One other point, when looking for this place, bear in mind it's about 20 yards down a sub-soi, and I'm not sure if it's visible from the street. The directions in an earlier post on this thread are clear.

I also visited Chinatown's one remaining cinema of interest (see earlier post for directions):
- most of the customers were middle-aged/elderly Thai-Chinese
- it seemed to almost double as a drop-in centre for the above
- no katoey
- no approach from money boys
- saw a little action

I didn't stay that long. Then the next day I had a lot of bites on my elbows and arms, and not mosquito bites! I can only think that when sitting I had (naturally) rested my arms on the arm-rests, and been bitten by some bedbug-type nasty.

-- For directions: this thread #20., 84., 139. and so on.
- I'll check with my Elderly, Frequently-visiting & American Friend about those non-mosquito-bites on your elbows & arms; I've not heard him mention such things: :(

Actually, I slapped your request for providing an address that was useless -- that, and for spending six words to direct people to an ancient post when in nine words you could have just re-stated where the place was and saved everyone the trouble.

- In future I'll leave it up to you to provide directions and save myself the trouble.

-- Today, 04 december, I had breakfast with my Elderly, Frequently-visiting & American Friend who has been visiting the CHINATOWN RAMA CINEMA for at least the past five years.
- I enquired of he had been bitten similarly?
- He replied that he had not; although, from other experiences in LONDON, in SAN FRANCISO and in other places he wouldn't have been too surprised about that.
- Then we talked-about our late, Elderly, WYSIWYG. & American Friend who visited there from time-to-time. Our memories suggested that he wore long-sleeved shirts; but it's 100%. for sure that were he to have been bitten all of us would have heard about it!

-- From a second hand report, originated by a money-boi in the CHINATOWN RAMA CINEMA: 'Across the river the HAWAII CINEMA is still in business but the other one, [CHALERM GIAT?], has CLOSED.'.

- Today afternoon I de-'bussed. at ROBINSON'S - Thonburi and crossed-over Lat ya rd.to verify for myself;
- The report of CHALERM GIAT CINEMA's death is not greatly exagerated, (apologies to Mark Twain.), it has CLOSED indeed - 100%. for sure. In fact the cinema, all of the shops and suchlike in that block have CLOSED; the entirety is surrounded by mainly builders' & corrugated metal sheeting and/or by wooden hoardings.
-- Ichabod: :( -- :)

Another cinema ...

- Alas and alack - it is all too true: another cinema has bitten the dust: :(
- Acting up on info. rec'd. from my olde pal my olde beauty, Khun TST., I visited and walked-around THE PRINCE CINEMA - New Charoen Krung, ( this thread posting #116.); a sheet of CGI. nailed-across the box-offices' windows and all doors CLOSED either by padlocks or by wooden battens nailed across.

-- By my reckoning that leaves only the flg. cinemas on the BKK.side of the river:
1.- CHINATOWN RAMA - Yaowarat rd. - #139.;
2.- LAEMTHONG - Khlong Toei. - #132.;
3.- PHAHOL CINEMA - Saphan Kwai. - #29.;
4.- THE STATE - Sam Rong. - #44..

-- :)
