- drinks - as one of my companions paid the bill I didn't see the drinks' prices, but possibly comparable with other bars in the soi?
- On entering from the soi the smell of the earlier fire was noticeable still; but once inside I became aware of a strong smell of chlorine.
- Only 1 other spectator there, who had been joined by a couple of a go-go boyz.
- We saw one of staff member smoking a cigarette.
- The a go-go boyz varied from the expensive-to-keep looking queanie/twinkie boyz to the older and more stolid types. Boi #1O tried to attract our attentions to his endowment, wch. seemed to be the biggest amongst the boyz - all of whom were wearing white vests over tight boxer-type shorts.
- The music was too loud for us; we asked one of the captains to have it reduced, but he merely smiled at us in reply.
- We left after finishing our drinks, at wch. time there were two more spectators.

-- Two of us then went along Soi Twilight to X-BOYS.
- ETA.: approx. 22.20.hrs.;
- Drinks at 250.Bh.;
- Full enough that we were shewn to seats right at stage front. We noticed a group of JP. women at stage right - all of whom were smoking cigarettes - despite four 'NO SMOKING.' notices on the walls; in fact a woman next to me lit her cigarette and a waiter obligingly brought her an ash tray.
- We arrived to see some half-a-dozen boys dressed in briefs dancing energetically on the stage.
- House light dimmed at around 22.30.hrs..
- A fairly usual variety of acts - candle, fake S&M. and shower acts, but with very little nudity - more suggestion than show.
- Amongst the performers was an old friend - Khun Wee: body still in good shape but face shewing the passing & ravages of time.
- There were about a dozen for the Big Cock Show, maybe 3 or 4 pulled-down their briefs to shew what they have, but the remainder just walked-around the stage rubbing their cocks in their briefs - Even Khun Wee who used to be such an enthusiastic show-off, (and he does have something to shew!), did not reveal anything that time.
- There was no bold/fucking show.
- House lights were switched on again at around 23.30.hrs.; at which point I paid the bill and left.
- My friend & I both agreed that the music was too loud and that the PA. system is very much Lo-Fi..
- On the above I can't see myself returning thither soon.

I've been checking the photos recently looking for an individual who I haven't seen recently. Photos are added and/or deleted at least a couple of times a week. Not sure where you got the information that it is "months out of date."

Still can't find the one I was hoping would reappear, but a few alternates have been newly added. Of course I know there's no guarantee they'll be available when I visit in a couple of weeks, but it's always nice to have a few faces to look for even if someone better distracts me once I get to the bar.

I did notice that quite a few of the newly posted "boys" are 30 or over ... or at least that's the age they admit to. Stress on the economy is showing itself in strange places.

Boys BKK - great show Saturday -lasted 1hr 20 mins with a short 10 minutes interval to display the gogo boys- love the BBB airline routine - slapstick is alive and well and much laughter. Normal hd c..k parade - finished with 3 on to 1 f..king show - Well worth the 260 baht drink price 9/10

1.- X-BOYS: Don't waste time. Rating O/5.;
2.- FUTUREBOYS: Most explicit bold show. Boys younger looking than in other a go-go bars. 1.5/5.;
3.- TAWAN BAR: Shows more towards S&M with full dick and bold show. Recommended for variety and no pretence. 4/5.;
4.- JUPITER 2OO2: Dance & choreography quite good. Boys of higher standard than most other bars. 4/5.;
5.- DREAMBOYS: Most number of boyz & many eye-candies. Decent show with plenty of dicks. Bar to visit if visiting time is limited. 4.5/5.;
6.- FRESH BEACH BOYS: Boys are average. After the Big Cock Show boys will walk amongst spectators and allow them to feel. If only they had better looking guys. 3/5..

Keep those reviews coming. I live in Bangkok and have only been out bar-hopping once this year. Too many regulars showing up at my door, so the urge to go out and seek more isn't as great as it used to be. Nevertheless, one of my fellows is going into the army next week and I feel there will be a ... void in my life. So, I'm ready to go out hunting again. I just hope there the pickings are better than the last few times I went out on the town. I can see the Patpong area is covered, but has anyone been out to Saphan Khwai recently? Not that I expect much, but just wondering if there are any signs of life out there these days.

"Hunting" is the right word. I ventured north to Bangkok last week and found the "pickings" indeed slim. Actually the boys on offer at the message venue (and those I saw standing outside a few other massage venues) looked far more inviting than anything I saw on Soi Twilight.

I don't hit the bars that often, but I can't remember ever having to visit more than a couple of bars before finding at least one or two boys who kept my attention riveted. This time it took a good deal more hunting.

I think it was Icon who suggested that some of the better boys were gravitating to the massage places because it provided a safer environment and a slightly more reliable prospect of better money.

I hope things will pick up with the return of the high season. Or maybe instead of getting a massage in the afternoon and hitting the bars at night it will be better to just get several massages.

Let us know if you find anything noteworthy away from Surawong.

Buzzard - Saphan Khwai is now all karaoke bars except for Be High with a handful of gogo boys. I made a "research visit" half a year ago and blogged about it here.

Kaojai - I have the same observation about trends. The gogo boys are getting older (and still in the business) and looks-wise, more and more like street toughs. Service quality after being off'd has been on the decline for years. Yet bar prices and expectations of tip quantum have remorselessly increased.

Where in previous visits to Bangkok, I used to visit at least one gogo bar a night (two bars if the night before I didn't visit), in recent years, I have been stepping into the Soi Pratuchai area maybe just once in 4 nights. The last visit, I didn't off a gogo boy at all - some kind of record for me.

Instead, I have been increasing my visits to massage places. Sure, they're hit and miss too, but I reckon that even if things don't turn out fantastic in a massage, they don't get as dreadful as a bad bar experience. At least I don't hassled by mamasans or threatened by the boys in my own room for tipping less than 2000 baht after 45 minutes of non-performance.
