visited heaven sauna last friday. entrance fee somewhere around 120 baht. fairly busy at 7pm. 2 or 3 other farangs. a few very good looking locals (with muscular bodies). sadly, all gymfit looking locals avoided all farangs (me including). the good news is that farangs weren't too choosy and all (possibly except one) got someone.

there were also two very muscled locals. one of them cruised a chubby local. sat with him on the bench and massaged his hand. not sure whether they knew each other, or massaging hands is a sign of interest, or the muscular guy was a prostitute hunting for off-peak trade. both muscular guys avoided farangs as well.

sauna mania: haven't been there during daytime, but my friend visited daytime and reported that locals weren't interested in white guys at all. I visited the place after dj on saturday and sunday (both times around 4am). there were still some guys inside. on the first occasion, two muscular guys; on the second one gymfit guy. each time, there were a few (2-3) gwm cruising. in general, somewhat better looking locals weren't interested in white guys. i could easily pick up the average looking guys (who don't work out, but aren't fat) if i wanted. most guys at sauna mania were very young, very slim, and around 5'8.

babylon: haven't been there yet, but my travelling companion visited last monday and reported that the whole large section with showers, big steam room, jacuzzi and a cruising maze was closed. the only section opened was the one next to the changing rooms. the only steam room operating was the one next to the swimming pool. no hot (gymfit) asians, except the regulars/prostitutes, who sit around the gym.

I noticed a long time ago that very little sex leading to orgasm actually happens in U.S. saunas -- they're mainly places where asexual, useless, queeny types end up to "exist" in a gay place (walk around a little to pose, engage in some gayspeak, get a room and sleep alone in it, etc.) -- this might be another reason why the Western saunas are in decline. I suppose young normal guys who want sex with other young guys are turned off by this total (and pathetic) waste of time.

My experience in Bangkok is the opposite--lots of hot guys who are there for hot sex--and lots of guys going into rooms and having hot sex.

Also, as to bars, I think a lot of gay bars go out of business here in the U.S. for the same reason: a certain element of weird queens (who are NOT interested in sex--but instead just want to pose, play weird mind games, etc.) takes over and the place ends up closing. I've always had the thought that someone should try opening a bar or sauna that ruthlessly screens who they let in--even excluding a lot of young guys. Also, one of my first observations when I entered the cruising world around 1984 was that most gay people who smoke cigarettes are a total waste of time (I think their brain's reaction to nicotine removes sex drive or substitutes for it).

been to undreground sauna for an hour on thursday evening. lots of young, slim boys. a few gymfit guys. guys not as hot as those in sauna mania. staff very friendly. most guys aren't into gwm. the hottest guys don't hook up with anyone.

in sum, go there if u happen to visit the cinema nearby and u're in a reasonably good shape. if u're out of shape, skip it.

It is universal truth, hot guys go with hot guys. But there are exceptions if u have intelligence, money, or patience...:-)

Again, an observation: often the hottest guys don't go with anyone because they're just there to walk around and be looked at (narcisicism). Instead of a mirror, they have the atmosphere where they think everyone else is admiring them. It's an odd phenomenon--I noted this in a sauna in Sao Paulo, Brazil--where almost all the guys were extremely good-looking but nobody was hooking up. There are similar parades in saunas in Bangkok--but at least a LOT of the hot guys hook up and actually have sex. I also often wonder if a lot of the narcissic hot guys are a-sexual.

of course, you could seek out guys (teachers, doctors, businessmen) who aren't money boys. Take a bit longer but an effective way of weeding out the "professionals" is asking where they parked their car! There are so many saunas in BKK now, although admittedly it takes longer to coax suburban guys. I am over 40 and not gym fit but a real smile and an interest in others can succeed. Gosh! just like in western countries.

- The customer who entered ahead of me, (an E. African looking & American negro from Chicago.), was assigned locker #16. and I was assigned #17.. The Locker Room is on the US.-style 1st.fl.. In my locker was a free adm'n. tkt. for a future visit for before 18 sep.;
- During my time there I'd guestimate that there might have been as many as a dozen and an half other customers: I saw three mature farangs, the a/m. Am. negro, a good few Thais in the 30s/40s. age-gp., several younger Thais & a couple YM. visiting from SGP.;
- That friday evening was a 'Small towel & no u'wear. night.'; although I saw that several customers did tuck their small towel into their briefs' waistbands. However, one patrolling staff-member did request the Am. negro to remove his briefs before going into the Rest Rooms' area!
- Apart from Recept'n. & the Locker Room the general & ambient lighting level is LOW: not too many o'head spots casting pools of light on the floors. Possibly our 37YO. Australian respondent with an athletic physique & not unattractive might like to include this sauna on his list - along with SAUNA MANIA?
- The steam-room, (approx. 12x15ft. and with a curved wall partition along its longer axis.), appeared to be MORE popular than the Rest Rooms. There I achieved my previous wish, from when I was in McDo. at THE MALL - N. Wongwan, (qv.), of enjoying a 'Long black.'! A welcum change after the smaller Thai members.
- The shower-room includes single person and/or several persons' use spaces; none of the showers is HOT water;
- While STYLE is not as openly sticky as some other saunas I'll allow that I did spend MORE time on my own than I would have liked;
- Many of the concrete stairways do not have banister/hand-rails - thus one is advised to dry one's feet before descending carefully!
- With the free tkt. 'vaut le retour.'.

i agree that it might be possible to get some better looking guys with patience and lots of cruising effort. but then, wouldn't that feel more like work (if not harder)?

it might not be all explained by narcissism. part of the answer is that some guys (especially frequent sauna visitors) don't go to saunas just to have sex. they go to spend (waste) time, chat with friends (other sauna regulars), some even hope to meet a boyfriend.

And thanks for pointing out this locker routine--I don't like when saunas don't "stagger" the key numbers--it's hard to undress, etc. when there's someone right next to you doing the same at the same time.

"The steam-room . . ." -- By the way, there is also hot-room (wooden) sauna on the same floor as the steam-room--one might not see it. I had to ask if they had one.

In that Sao Paulo sauna, almost nobody was talking with anyone, and it was a huge number of HOT guys all just walking around, and standing in the large common shower for a long time--but almost nobody was connecting. In Bangkok, I have seen "parades" of really hot Thai who do not have any interest in talking with each other--and they just walk around but don't connect. After a LONG time, many do connect (in some saunas) but in other saunas they don't seem to connect. Maybe just walking around for a long time makes them more sexually aroused.
