Some people wear underwear or bathing suits.

Some saunas have times or areas where you can't wear anything. Underground 39 Sauna gives you a little cloth to wear that covers up your dick.

Thanks for all the extra info about what you can and can't wear at saunas, guys. That is precisely why I love all the dark saunas - I can just wrap my towel around my wrist or neck and cruise completely naked in them.

I love it when somebody gropes me in the dark and then finds that his hand hasn't encountered a wet towel but bare skin (among other things)...there's always a moment of hesitation and then....!!!!

Really this place could be in any affluent western country. From a personal point of view (is there any other!) it is not for me. My list of complaints is too long for here. Lets just mention the music. Sunday they had country and western and today this afternoon Shostokovich, Chopin and Schuberts greatest hits orchastrated dreadfully. Personally I don't jo to the classics (crassics). This place is lost.

Thank you for reminding me about the classical music. It is actually one of the things I like about the place. As I have said in previous posts about this place, I really love it and stay here whenever I am in Bangkok (which is almost once a month). It is not just the sauna, which I don't think is as good as say "Wet on Wellington" in Melbourne or "Steamworks" in Berkeley, but Babylon also has the up-market accommodation set in luxurious gardens, the swimming pool, the gym, the restaurants, professional masseurs, the atmosphere, etc. It is a complete package. Gay heaven in a great location!

I really like the classical music, too, and the pool.

I worry that the place is too expensive for most Thai.

I don't go there for the restaurant, gym, pool, masseurs, or atmosphere. I only want to connect with guys (and hopefully meet a boyfriend). I met a hot one there 6 months ago, and he stayed with me a few nights this trip, and we really like each other. But I met him just walking around (I think he had just come in). I don't think the Thai go there for anything other than to connect.

More likely "designed to put the most money in Khun Tak's pocket".

I just go there to tan. Glad they open at 1030 these days - as long as those Germans stay out of my way

I am staying at Babylon currently (the 6th or 7th time in the last 12 months), and I can report it has been very busy this last week. On Saturday and Sunday night it was really a crush. Hundreds of men - and more than a few hunks. Have noticed more Europeans (especially Russians) than Americans on this trip. The overall standard of the place remains high. No trouble scoring with the locals. The westerners are mostly physically un-attractive and/or behave like pigs. But then I don't go there to make it with westerners.

I visited Bangkok for 1 week in early December 2009 (I do apologise for my tardiness in posting this!)... This thread had made me worry that the "magic" had gone. I have noticed a trend of an increasing proportion of caucasians (I visit on average every 9 months to a year) and that did seem to be the case on my first visit which was a Wednesday.

Yet I did have a great time nonetheless and I am very pleased to say that all 3 of my visits this time were all extremely enjoyable, probably my most enjoyable ever here! I connected with many lovely Thai guys and I do especially appreciate the restaurant, particularly if with company :-)

My Sunday there was the most "frustrating" for me - I had to leave at 7pm and the place was heaving with highly desirable guys. I'm not really complaining as I had already had a very good time! Long may Babylon continue.

You don't miss much - I find that my hit rate drops severely after dark around 7pm. Seems like the vibe switches - the guys become more posey. A lot more attitude. The emphasis becomes getting laid instead of having a drink or enjoying the music.

Exactly. Once the parade starts, everything becomes a lot more difficult. I have had the best luck in the early afternoon when it's dead.

I don't understand the parade. What are these guys looking for that they need to walk around forever? Aren't there guys of their type they can connect with by walking around maybe two or three times?

I don't understand your post: if the emphasis shifts to getting laid, then isn't that the opposite of guys becoming more posey with a lot more attitude? It seems to me that the emphasis shifts to becoming posey (but then suddenly going in with other guys--but NOT me). By the way, it seems that there's a lot of unprotected fucking going on. And I never understood all the conspicuous noise made by Asians getting fucked. It seems they do it on purpose to put on a show.

I forgot to mention, Babylon has always advertised in the American Travel "Guide" publication. I noticed that Babylon lists a location in Chiang Mai, too.

If Babylon advertises in Europe, Russia, etc., then that helps explain why all the farangs go directly to Babylon and no other places.

Here is Babylon ad in the American gay travel "Guide" publication that comes out each month, and is distributed free in saunas, etc.:

THAILAND
BANGKOK
Babylon . . . [address, phone number, web site] . . .
Sauna and Spa, bed & sumptuous breakfast. Queendom where deepest desires are fulfilled. Male resort, world class & barracks rooms, penthouses, garden suites. Gymnasium, Jacussi, private cabins, massage. Large pool in landscaped garden. Internet/Wi-fi. Three restaurants & nightly entertainment. Also in Chiang Mai: Babyblizz.com

Also listed under Bangkok are similarly-long ads for "Beyond Hotel . . . stay with LUXX" and Tarntawan Place Hotel.

For Pattaya, there are similar long ads for: Le Cafe Royale Hotel, Sansuk Sauna & Guesthouse, and The Ambiance Hotel.

For Phuket, there are similar ads for: CC Bloom's Hotel and Sundowners Bar & Guesthouse.
