short question- does anyone happen to know if there are any bars (gogo or meet or karaoke) left along Sukhumvit and its many sois? The only one I see still listed is InterMoustache-soi 10, which has been going round (if it is still open) for a few decades.
(if I count-for gogo there are 10 at the most in BKK-in soi Pratuchai, just around, soi 6/silom and the 1 and only in Sapan kwai-the others are karaoke).

Walking through Narathiwat Soi 1 one afternoon, I see a sign saying "Male Bar".
Wasn't it a new Hotmale Station at this spot barely months ago? Something must have happened to cause a name change. I've never figured out what the bar was then and still don't know now. Months back, music emanated from the inside, but it was totally empty even past 10 p.m. The doorman's English was not adequate enough to explain. Is it gogo, or host bar or what?

Last time I went to 'Inter Mustache' was about 9 months back, against my better judgment, at the request of a visiting friend who had been to Inter Mustache many years before:
- Yes, they did have go-go; about 7 or 8 boys, each boy danced for about three minutes, in pairs. NO repeat dancing. (They also had perhaps 15 more boys who did not dance.) - None of the boys were interesting to me, all were very handsome and very well groomed, all dressed very well and my guess is that they would be very attractive to rich older Thai men who were looking for a handsome handbag. - Within a minute of our drinks being served, drinks came also for the two captains who had plonked down beside us. We did not order the drinks, they come automatically (and this is partly why I mentioned above that we went there against my better judgment). - As soon as the go-go had finished (I guess less than 15 minutes two of the dancing boys (fully clothed) plonked down beside us, totally uninvited - there was no discusion with my friend or myself about having boys sit with us, and within another 30 seconds drinks appeared for these guys, again unordered. - Additionally, the drinks which had come for the captains had been consumed very quickly and replacements arrived quickly, again unordered. - My friend at this point quickly indicated that he wanted the bill, but at the same moment more drinks arrived for the two dancing boys who had also consumed their first drinks very quickly. - All drinks were about 220Baht from memory. Quite a bill - You can see why i mentioned ' against my better judgment', because I had seen the same 'act' several years before. - But I will add that Inter Mustache has been there for many many years, I guess over 20 years, and about twenty years ago I went there regularly, in those days they had perhaps 30 or more boys every night, dancing was continuous all night, and I recall some great times and great 'personal' service.

-- My middle-aged, occasionally visiting & Australian acquaintance mentioned that last week - the days between between Christmas Day & NY's. day - he went to X B@YS. in Soi Twilight - off Suriwong rd.;
- Drinks: 450.Bh., - Off fee: 500.Bh., - TIP. to one's companion: 2,000.Bh. for two hrs. - that is not the time spent in one's room but from leaving the bar until return! -- He added that this week the drinks' prices have ret'd. to 250.Bh.. -- E&OE. as reported speech.

QUOTE: "2,000Baht tip NOt for the time spent in the room, but from leaving the bar until return". What does that mean? Are you expecting that the working man should sit in a coffee shop or something similar free until they go to the hotel? What a load of crap! And who 'made' the fee of 2,000Baht? Was this the fee indicated by the working man, or indicated by the captain? If it was from the working man after the 'event', then politely challenge the fee or give a smaller tip* or at least don't use his services again. *Seems to relate to some recent postings on this site about current tip expectations, many posters indicated that they see 1,500 or even a bit more as a normal current tip for short time in Bangkok. I was just reading this thread with a friend who is also a long-term resident in Bangkok, he instantly mentioned that he always pays 2,000 or more for short time for boys from soi twilight. If the fee was 'made' by the captain before leaving the bar, then why proceed?

Sextile, I too was incredulous to read your Australian acquaintance's report. While I wasn't in the bar that particular week, I was there a week before Christmas and was charged 250 baht for a drink. I was also advised by a senior-looking waiter that the bar fine was 400 baht.
I find it hard to imagine that the pathetic customer numbers when I was there (from a low of 6 to a high of 18 customers -- see my report in Bangkok gogo bar update December 2010) would so miraculously improve a mere week later to justify surge pricing. Xfun's report that he too was charged the usual 250 baht on Dec 28th suggests that the Australian was given a "milk the newbie" treatment. As for the tip to the boy, I distinctly remember from my December trip that two bars' mamasans mentioned a recommended figure of 1,500 baht. They were Jupiter and Dream Boy. By all accounts, these two bars have the best-looking boys. If they think that 1,500 is the appropriate guideline, it is ludicrous for X-boys to suggest higher, Christmas week or not. Xfun's question is pertinent: who mentioned 2,000 baht? If the captain or mamasan, once again, the Australian might have been seen as a gullible greenhorn. If it was the boy himself, then we should treat it not as a general indicator but as a specific negotiating position with respect to a specific boy and a specific customer, whom the boy might not have found all that attractive. By the way, Xfun - the passage in italics, are they your words or are you quoting from someone else?

-- Khun Sloot, - My Aussie. acquaintance will be ret'g. to Australia today, thus any further communications will be by e-mail rather than face-to-face. - But he worked here in BKK. for several years before ill health forced his return to Australia and made him a visitor to the LoS., and thus he should be as aware as any of us as to prices, the going rate and so on. - But, in truth, when we talked I did not cross-question him as to whether it was the M'San. or the young man in question who stated the price of 2K.Bk. for the two hrs. between leaving & ret'g. to the bar; my thought being that were one to take a short time room at or be staying in a well-known hotel across Suriwong rd. then one might enjoy him for longer than if one were to take a taxi to some MORE distant accn./hotel and the young man had to make the return journey within the two hrs. stipulated.

-- I managed to catch my Aussie. acquaintance before he left on his return flt. to AUSTRALIA;
- He confirmed that it was the M'San. who told him that the two hours' off fee for him that evening would be 2,000.Bh; he added that the young man in question is not one of the R&F. YM. but is one of the dancers whom one sees on the small platforms to the front corners of the stage, (a possible reason for an higher price?),. - He concluded by telling me that the following evening a different M'San. quoted just 1,500.Bh. for 2hrs. for the same YM.. -- I hope that the above has clarified what occured and the prices/times mentioned.

What the Australian seemed not to have asked about, but could have been a shocker, was the bar fine for a coyote dancer. One can assume that just like having a higher off fee for waiters, coyotes also come with a different rate for the bar fine. And there's still the 450 baht for a drink for which I cannot see any earthly justification. Probably the same first mamasan's doing as well?

Does anyone have any stories about going out to a go-go bar, sitting for a long time, drinking, paying a bar fine, paying a dancer, and then it was unsatisfactory? I've never offed a boy because I'm worried that I will waste a lot of time and money, and then not want to go out again looking for someone else (who might also be unsatisfactory). This is a big investment of time (going to the bar, sitting, going back to a hotel, etc.). I mean, do these guys usually perform well? I know one answer is, "Well, you have to carefully ask the boy questions." I want to try this but was warned that only 1 out of 3 guys actually are satisfactory sex. And just looking in for "free look", my instincts immediately tell me that the guys are just a good show but probably won't be that great. I know I'll be getting a bunch of personal attacks on this post, too.
