hi guys

i know hotels get mentioned alot on here but i got a dilema, i need a reognised hotel that i can get my secretary to book, so obviously it cant be gay, it needs to be central silom or suhkmaavet and must be relatively near to bts station. it can be 3* upwards and it must be ok to get guests into the room without too much paperwork

am i asking too much or can someone help

I've used the Tawana Ramada hotel a few minutes walk from Patpong and opposite the Tarntawan Place Hotel on many occasions, never had a problem bringing anyone back. just need to be a bit more discreet than some of ther other hotel really

What about the Holiday Inn in Silom ?????

I know the dilemma, yorkie. I've been there before. After almost a dozen trips to Bangkok, I've learned my lessons well when it comes to choosing the "right hotel" to stay in. You may consider the following suggestions:

1. Silom/Surawong Area - you're options are either Dusit Thani or Pan Pacific Hotel. Both are tolerant of overnight guests, but the lobby lay-out of the Pan Pacific can be a little bit tricky for a first-timer. Avoid Montien Hotel by all means.

2. Sukhumvit Area - you may want to go for either Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit or JW Marriott. Of course, discretion here is a must. The trick with Sheraton Grande is to always pass by its entrance at street level (where Riva's is located) whenever your take-home hunk is with you. With JW Marriott, it has so many entrances and exits that bringing in a friend can be a breeze. Besides, the staff there are quite tactful about these things. For as long as your date's behavior is decent (no clingings in the lobby), then I don't see a problem. Avoid the Zenith Sukhumvit Hotel.

3. Ploenchit/Siam Square Area - the newly-opened Hotel Plaza Athenee is tolerant of overnight guests. For such deluxe accomodations, though, I find their rooms a little on the bland side. Avoid the Le Meridien President and Siam Inter-continental.

4. Riverside Area - the Peninsula Bangkok is unbeatable in this part! With their excellent/high-tech facilities, luxurious accomodations, and reasonable rates (at least from now till end of September), not even the Shangri-la and Royal Orchid Sheraton can come close to what this one can offer. They have one of the best health clubs in Bangkok, plus, they are gay-friendly!

Now, if serviced residences are your thing, then it is even easier to bring in overnight guests to any one of them. Your best bets in this regard are: Omni Tower (Sukhumvit Area), Saladang Place and Saladaeng Colonnade (Silom Area). Avoid the newly-opened Emporium Suites (behind the plush Emporium Mall) because the feedbacks I've gotten so far are not too encouraging)

I forgot to add something, yorkie. All the hotels I recommended are very close to BTS Skytrain stations (as in 100 meters or less by foot), especially the Pan-Pacific, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, and Hotel Plaza Athenee.

If you want over night vistors do not stay at The Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza on Silom. After 10pm they do not allow guest unless they are registered before hand. Unless of course you happen to bring in another western guest and they assumed they are guests of the hotel.
Other wise it is a great hotel, and just across street from Haven Sauna, and a few min away from the prince.

so what kind of rates these place offer and does anyone have any knowledge of landmark hotel?

Tower Inn on Silom, short walk to Chong Nonsi BTS. 1300 B single 1600 B double includes breakfast. No problem bringing anyone in.

To have a guest staying overnight, I always use the trick - book a room for two; on my arrival I tell the hotel reception that my partner will check in later (they always assume it is a Mrs, my wife). If they ever check, I will tell the boy to register as the other guest. This has worked for me in all top hotels around the world.

yorkie, the hotels I suggested are within the US$80-120 rate per night, although you can always get good bargains for any one of them from online reservationists. The only hitch is that these lower rates don't come with a breakfast. Now, among the service residences, two of them (Saladang Place and Omni Tower) offer rates below US$50 per night inclusive of breakfast.

Landmark Hotel is alright, i.e. gay-friendly. Its location on Sukhumvit Road makes it accessible to all places, being near one of the Skytrain stations. However, I did not include this one in my list of recommended hotels because I was told that a good portion of the property will be under renovation starting next month so that might be cause of concern for you.

royal orchid sheraton, holiday inn crowne plaza, monarch lee gardens and amari watergate

can anyone give me advice on these for things such as guests access

The Monarch Lee Gardens allowed guests last Christmas and it's the closest one to the action on Silom.

is it near a bts and whats the rooms facilities like

Another good agent is www.accomline.com run by a company in Australia. It offers several 4-5 star hotels around the world at bottom prices, e.g. Shangri-la $90 (without breakfast), Siam-Intercontinental $42 (with breakfast and the main TBS station is right in front of the hotel). If you are a members of this travel agent, you get a few $$ off the already discounted prices too. The agent offers you a free membership after you make the first booking, so my trick is first to book a room for ONE night only. The agent will then e-mail you a booking confirmation (if rooms available) with free membership number and password which you can then use to book subsequent nights at a special member rate. I used it once for a holiday in Vienna last Feb, and it was very good.

I was invited to stay overnights with farang friends at some classy hotels including Sukhothai, Dusit, Siam-Intercontinental, Tawanna Ramada, Shangari-la, Sheraton by the river, Novotel on Sukhumvit, Sofitel Central Plaza, and Maenam Riverside hotels. Never had any problems with these hotels. Was asked for an ID card at the Maenam Riverside and the gay Trantawan hotel once, but that did not offend me in any way.

As for the Landmark Hotel, I have no experience there. But a dear Scottish friend took me to a live-music pub on its rooftop long long time ago. That was very nice and romantic. Still remember my friend asking a singer to sing a meaningful song for me, and his tears. Such a lovely guy…

Briefly now,

1) Royal Orchid Sheraton - mixed feedbacks on overnight guests; far from BTS stations because of its riverside area location; but the accomodations are great! You can get a room here for a low as US$94 per night at http://www.accomline.com

2) Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza - mixed reviews on overnight guests; relatively near to a BTS staion; rooms here can be had at US$60 per night incl. bfast.

3) Monarch Lee Gardens - mixed reviews on overnight guests but it seems to be the most tolerant among the four; relatively near to a BTS station; it's also the cheapest among the four where rooms can go for a low as US$50 per night incl bfast.

4) Amari Watergate - mixed reviews on overnight guests but their gym is cruisy; front desk staff tends to look down at Thai off-boys; relatively inconvenient for walking if proximity to a BTS station is a priority; good accomodations, though, with rooms going for as low as US$65 per night incl bfast.

Yorkie, if budget is an issue, then try these other hotels which are comparatively more gay-friendly:

On Sukhumvit: Amari Boulevard, Novotel Lotus, and as you earlier posted, Landmark Hotel (renovations notwithstanding) because rooms here are currently valued between US$40-50 per night incl. bfast.

On Silom: Try the serviced residences and I'm sure you won't have a problem here. Always toppping my list is SalaDang Place http://www.saladangplace.com where studios can be booked at less than US$40 per night incl bfast or Saladaeng Colonnade http://www.andrewpark.com which is a little more pricey at US$65 per night incl bfast. These two are so convenient to both BTS stations and the gay nightlife of Bangkok.

Good luck to your search! Tell your secretary that she can do better than offer you these selections.
